When a hidden name spoken in the language of the rustling leaves is uttered by the canopy, the call is answered by a lone sentinel. Clad in radiant ironwood armor and wielding weapons gifted by the ancient forest the Verdan Champion arrives as the ultimate guardian of the ancient forests.
Though it often walks alone, the champion is never truly solitary. It communes with druids, defends verdant beasts, and patrols the borders of sacred groves. This guardian embodies the will of the natural world, protecting mythic trees such as Ergalad, Tree of Salvation. The champion's life is given to this ancient tree, and in moments of crisis, it may summon the imposing and mighty Ergalad to the battlefield to assist it by incapcacitating enemies and healing allies.
While fearsome in combat, the champion values harmony and seeks to maintain balance. It patrols the surrounding wilds, guiding and defending the creatures of the forest. If it falls, a new champion is chosen through divine contract, transforming a worthy soul into the forest’s next protector.
DMs looking to introduce a divine protector of the wilderness will find the Verdant Champion a powerful narrative and tactical asset—ideal as a sacred sentinel, a druidic emissary, or the last line of defense against forces that would defile the natural order. As the champion may summon the tree and create a new forest and location for its vigil it is also excellent for one shots and singular, impromptu encounters to throw a twist into your campaigns.
